A friend got me playing one of those location-based games a little while back. I gave it up because when I woke up and realized that it was all a big ‘so what’ moment. It had no point for me. Very few of my friends were playing. I did not want to be friends with strangers. I did not want strangers to know where I was and I was not getting anything free (or big discounts). I gave up the game after a few months. These games were not for me but they may be good for other people. However, are they important or necessary to higher education?
Seth Odell recently wrote a guest blog titled “5 Reasons Higher Ed can Forget about Location-Based Services” This blog gives some pretty decent reasons why schools don’t need to rush out and sign up for all the latest location-based services.

Joe you’ve hit on one of the web services that I simply don’t enjoy
Glad to see there are others that agree
